Burke Hansen graduated from Claremont McKenna College with a degree in literature and then taught English to both high school students and business people in Mexico and Japan for five years, before returning to San Francisco in 1997 to attend University of California Hastings College of the Law.
He started his own practice in 2005, focusing on wage and hour class action litigation and discrimination law. He was also the “attorney-at-large” for the British technology publication The Register, for which he covered the intersection of law and technology, and wrote extensively on ICANN, the internet gambling industry, and national security/FISA court litigation.

Since joining Hallinan & Hallinan in 2015, Burke has expanded his practice beyond litigation to include work on all facets of the medicinal cannabis industry, including water rights, land use, corporate formation, leasing, permitting and estate planning. The skills he has brought to us from his travels are hugely beneficial to our firm, and to our clients. His extensive experience with litigation and several other facets of the legal field give him a unique perspective and allow him to approach problems from other angles.
Burke, along with the rest of our legal team at Hallinan and Hallinan, PC, is dedicated to helping young companies get legal and permitted by their local municipalities. He has a thorough understanding of how to work with local governments and get results for our clients.
